Dry Plates are a glass plates coated with gelatine-based suspension of photosensitive silver dried before being taken out into the field. The plate is loaded into a plate holder in the dark and exposed in camera. A latent image is formed and the plate is then chemically developed just like any modern film. They where invented way back in 1871 as a way more practical substitute to wet plates. But with the arrival of modern cellulose based films and development in emulsion speed they unfortunately got lost in time.
The fact that images are made on glass makes them incredibly archival and the quality of fine grain emulsion by far exceeds any commercially available film.
In the box you will receive 10 Standard ISO 2 hand coated glass plates together with easy to follow developing manual with listed chemicals.
Each of the plates is individually wrapped to prevent emulsion damage. Together they are sealed in a black light tight bag and secured in a box to prevent any damage.
Exact size of the plate is 100x126mm or 3,94x4,96inches so it fits most of the popular old and new glass plate film holders like Chamonix, Chroma, ChromaGraphica... Thickness of the plate is 1,8mm or 0,07in.
